Case study · Construction · Passive fire protection
From coasting on referrals to a go-to-market engine.
Skyline Firestopping does landmark-grade work, and grew on luck. Here's how Encub8 turned a certified specialist with no system into a positioned business built to produce leads on purpose.

Where they were
- Growth by luck
- Commodity contractor
- Dormant founder
- No system
Where they are now
- A repeatable lead engine
- Gateway 2 specialist
- Full 90-day execution
- Market authority
The challenge
Skyline is an established contractor, BM TRADA-certified, with a project record most competitors couldn't touch. The kind of firm that earned its reputation on the quality of the work. But the engine driving growth was luck, and three things held it back.
The shopfront undersold the work
Landmark-grade projects, presented like a domestic trade on a placeholder website. That gap costs credibility with the tier-1 contractors and developers Skyline wanted to win.
A dormant founder brand
Tom Ford can hold a camera and talk on video. In a sector with no recognised authority figure, that's a real asset, sitting completely unused.
No go-to-market system
No visibility, no defined ideal customer, no messaging aligned to why buyers buy, no funnel. The reality is that's not a marketing problem, it's the absence of a GTM strategy.
The positioning reframe
It's not fire stopping. It's defensible compliance. The evidence file, not just the installation.
The whole UK fire-stopping sector looks the same: commodity-positioned, and blind to a regulatory revolution happening underneath it. The Building Safety Regulator went independent in January 2026. Gateway 2 submissions are being rejected for poor fire-stopping evidence. The “Golden Thread”, traceable proof of every penetration, is now what buyers on higher-risk buildings need, and almost no contractor at Skyline's tier was set up to sell it. That was the prize, and it was unoccupied.
What Encub8 did
Design the engine
Discovery, competitor mapping and market sizing. Locked the positioning, defined the ICP and buying team, and built the messaging framework, funnel model and a 90-day roadmap.
Build & run it
A new GEO/SEO-optimised website, a Dream 100 target list with SDR outreach, a lapsed-customer reactivation programme, a lead magnet, and a content calendar built around the compliance angle.
The outcome
- A commodity contractor became a positioned specialist, owning a regulatory niche no competitor at its tier occupies
- The strategy earned the budget to build it, Skyline moved from the sprint into a full 90-day execution engagement
- A repeatable engine: website, target list, outreach and attribution, not a one-off campaign
- The founder brand activated: Tom positioned as the authority his market didn't have
The outcome, in numbers
A commodity contractor became a positioned specialist, the target market established, the positioning built, the engine to reach it created and delivered in just five weeks.
named target accounts identified and prioritised by intent
new high-value content assets, company brochure, lead magnets and a new website
new customer meetings in the first month, including top-5 UK developers
first new customer project enquiry within just five weeks

“Encub8 have completely transformed our business in just a couple of months. We now have a high-quality website and content strategy that has really elevated our brand. We're already meeting with new clients who didn't know we existed, and there's a new energy across the whole team. I'm really excited for the future.”
